Weβve got even more published authors at Catchgate! π
Our Year 6 children who previously had their work selected for publication have now received their finished book β such an exciting moment and a fantastic achievement to celebrate.
As if that wasnβt enough, weβve also received letters confirming that children from Years 3β5 will also have their work published (hopefully before the summer holidays) thanks to their fabulous entries in the Young Writers competitions. βοΈ

A message from County Durham and Darlington Fire and Rescue Service (CDDFRS):
Wildfires
Firefighters are urging people to pack a picnic, not a BBQ, to avoid the risk of wildfires from breaking out in the hot and dry conditions.
Careless actions like leaving a BBQ to smoulder can cause a large fire that puts lives and property at risk.
But if you must have a BBQ, please follow these top safety tips from County Durham and Darlington Fire and Rescue Service (CDDFRS).
π Don't use disposable barbecues in open countryside, parks, and moorland areas.
π Never place a BBQ inside or near the opening of a tent or caravan and make sure there is plenty of space around you when cooking.
π Never place the BBQ on anything flammable as the foil base gets very hot.
π Make sure your disposable BBQ is fully extinguished by pouring plenty of water or sand onto it.
π Do not place a disposable BBQ in a rubbish bin until the coals have cooled down completely.
π Don't discard cigarettes, matches, or glass bottles, as they can ignite dry vegetation.
π If you see a wildfire, call 999 immediately and ask for the fire and rescue service.
π Tell the operator the location of the fire, the direction it is spreading, what is burning and if there is anything in immediate danger.
π If you notice any suspicious behaviour or see someone intentionally starting a fire, contact the police immediately or report the information anonymously to Crimestoppers on 0800 555 111 or Firestoppers on 0800 169 5558.
Water safety
If you see someone in difficulty in the water, remember the slogan, βPhone, Float, Throw.β
π Phone 999 and ask for the fire and rescue service.
π Tell them to stay calm and float on their back.
π Throw rescue equipment to help them float.
If you get into difficulty in the water, remember, βFloat to Live.β
Float on your back with your ears under the water and use your hands to stay afloat.
CDDFRS has warned that open water - such as rivers, reservoirs, and lakes - can be much colder than expected, even on the hottest days.
This sudden cold shock can cause your body to gasp uncontrollably, increasing the risk of inhaling water and drowning.
The Service strongly advises against jumping or diving into unknown waters.
Hidden hazards like rocks, debris, or sudden drops can lead to serious injury.
Even strong swimmers can struggle with currents or become exhausted in cold water.
If you are a parent or a guardian, please keep a close eye on children at all times near water.
It only takes a moment for an accident to happen.
