Year 6 2025-2026

Welcome to Year 6, our teacher is Mr Simpson and we are supported by Mrs Errington.

Our Learning This Term
Our Maths focus is on place value, while in English we are enjoying Holes by Louis Sachar. We are also practising cursive handwriting through our new Letter-Join scheme, encouraging everyone to develop a fluent, joined-up style.

This term in Science, we are exploring light and how it travels. In RE, we are learning about Islam, its key beliefs, traditions, and celebrations. 

PE takes place on Fridays. We are doing gymnastics this term. Swimming takes place on a Thursday.

For Art and DT, we follow the Kapow curriculum and are working on extending and deepening our drawing skills.

In Geography, we are learning about the time zones and other countries around the world. Our PSHE lessons focus on feelings, emotions, and self-regulation, helping children recognise and manage their emotions effectively.

To support your child’s learning at home, we encourage daily reading. Each child brings home a book-band book and a reading-for-pleasure book. They are given regular opportunities to visit our well-stocked school library to choose and change their books.

We've already made a great start and have taken our responsibilities as role models for the younger children very seriously. Some of us were recently interviewed to become Catchgate's first ever Mini Senior Leaders. Watch this space to see who was selected!
