Year 4/5S 2025-2026

We are the brand new Year 4/5 class with Mr Smith as our teacher. We're lucky as we also have Mrs Fowler working with us. Mrs Fowler is training to be a teacher and will be in school for most of the Autumn and Summer term. In Spring, she'll go to another school to get a different school experience.

We're super lucky as we're supported by Mrs High, who splits her time between 4/5S and 4/5W. In an afternoon, we also have Mrs Errington supporting us.

We were nervous at first when we heard we'd be in a mixed age class, but so far, it's been great. We've made new friends and still get the chance to see our old friends every playtime and lunchtime.

Our Learning This Term

Our Maths focus is on place value, while in English we are enjoying How to Train Your Dragon by Cressida Cowell. We are also practising cursive handwriting through our new Letter-Join scheme, encouraging everyone to develop a fluent, joined-up style.

This term in Science, we are exploring materials, their properties, and why understanding them is important in everyday life. In RE, we are learning about Judaism, its key beliefs, traditions, and celebrations.

PE takes place on Tuesdays and Wednesdays, with lessons in both football and gymnastics this term. For Art and DT, we follow the Kapow curriculum and are working on extending and deepening our drawing skills. In Geography, we are learning about the United Kingdom—its countries, terrain, and key features. Our PSHE lessons focus on feelings, emotions, and self-regulation, helping children recognise and manage their emotions effectively.

To support your child’s learning at home, we encourage daily reading. Each child brings home a book-band book and a reading-for-pleasure book, and they are given regular opportunities to visit our well-stocked school library to choose and change their books.
