Class Information and Homework
PE Lessons
We take part in fun, active play sessions that encourage movement, co-ordination and confidence using simple games, music and equipment to develop gross motor skills in a safe and supportive environment.
Pre-Phonics
We teach phonics to the children through playful, age-appropriate activities that focus on listening, speaking and early sound awareness. The sessions we deliver are short, engaging and embedded into everyday routines using songs, rhymes, stories and repetitive language.
We support early communication skills by modelling the correct pronunciation, encouraging imitation and responding positively to children’s attempt’s.
Reading
At Catchgate Primary School, we aim to foster a love of reading and to increase exposure to different types of texts. Through regular story times, we aim to increase vocabulary and give children experiences through books.
There are also 'real' books for children to explore in different areas of the Nursery and we re-read our core collection over and over so that we can become confident story-tellers!
Maths
In 2 Year, we focus on early mathematical concepts such as sorting, counting, matching, shape recognition and understanding simple language such as ‘more’, ‘less’ and ‘big’ or ‘small’.
We introduce numbers and simple problem-solving during songs, stories and practical activities such snack time or tidy-up time. By encouraging exploration, repetition and conversation, we help children develop confidence and curiosity in early maths while learning at their own pace in a supportive and engaging environment.
